Paris - Sunday & Monday

I have finally made the last post about my trip with my lovely mom to Paris last weekend! I tried to keep it short but it still turned out quite long, but I hope you still want to read it!

Sunday- my 18th birthday!

This day started off as usual; mom went down to buy a baguette for breakfast and I took a loooooong shower. When I got out I was still alone in the hotel room and the room´s phone started to ring. Hesitatingly I answered - it was the (male) receptionist, Daniel, who had called and sang happy birthday to me! I was pretty much flipping out and blushing a lot. Not much later mom knocked on the door - she had bought a cake for me and was singing for me too! And another bonus for the day was that it had been grey and rainy ever since we arrived but just today the skies were clear and sunny! So my birthday couldn´t have started off any better!

Our first stop for the day was the Arc De Triomphe, just some quick pictures before getting on the metro again to the Eiffel Tower! We stood in the queue for over two hours before finally getting in to the lift. We were both quite hungry by then so we grabbed something to eat on the first floor. I happened to overhear some brittish tourist behind us, I just have to share their conversation with you! A woman was in urgent need of a cup of tea and was devastated over the fact that she´d only had two cups yesterday - she was used to at least six a day! This fitted in so perfectly with my image of brittish people, I had to turn away and try not to laugh too loud!

I won´t lie - I was scared shitless when we were going up to the top of the tower. Luckily there was high fences and windows all  the way around. The view from there was breathtaking and absolutely worth all the waiting! Also, there was a chapmage shop there and the prices were as high as the monument.

The trip to the Eiffel Tower took much longer than expected and I was too tired and it was too late to visit Versialles. Sadly, it isn´t open on Mondays so I´ll visit it next time I come to Paris! So instead of Versialles we went to the Saint Germain quartier. We ate some great food (again!), walked down the cosy streets and found a passage! The passages were made for the ladies; the shopowners realized that women don´t like to shop in rain (they still don´t) and put roofs over the streets. This wasn´t one of the fancy passages, but it was still fun to see one in real life!

There was a big street with lots of shops of all kinds at the end of the passage and we stumbled across one that can be compared to Willy Wonkas chocolate fabric. The toned windows didn´t reveal so much from the inside but as soon as I stepped in I got struck by the scent of rich, dark chocolate and sugar! The shop was filled with sweets, mostly chocolate, from roof to top in all forms you can imagine - statues, lollipops, long rows of pick & mix! Heaven! They also had loads of macrons, I bought some for myself and only the thought of how they tasted make me drool!

After some more walking I spotted a vintage shop across the street that seemed intresting. It was called Kilo, odd name for a shop you may think. Turned out the name was because the clothes were sold per kilo! They had tags in different colors - green was 20€ per kilo, red was 30 and so on! It was so well sorted and I found a lovely skirt there!

I really wanted to see Paris and the Eiffel Tower by night so we had a drink and then walked down to the river to take some photos. It was an excellent opportunity for me to use my cross-filter - it makes those little "stars" at the lights in the picture!

Monday - last day

We were both soooooo tired on Monday so we decided not to go on any big adventures, just walking around in Montmartre. We had only seen the neighborhood by night, the square where we ate the first night was crowded with artists in the daytime, there were some really good painters there. But none of them were better than the one we saw a little bit later - Salvador Dalí! Dalí is one of my favourite artists, I have loved his surrealistic paintings since I was little and seeing Space Elephant with my own eyes was just wonderful!
