Hundertwasserhaus

Today started with a stroll down to a very special apartment complex called Hundertwasserhaus. It's built after the idea and concept of Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser with architect Joseph Krawina as a co-author. Hundertwasser wanted architecture that was closer to nature, without any unnatural straight lines but with bright colors and whimsical shapes. The work began in 1983 and two years later the controversial building was finished

Everything is irregular on and around the building; from the stones on the ground to the patches of color that separates the apartments. Also, there are countless details in form of tiles, spirals and a rooftop garden that makes you wanna stay and explore every nook and corner of it.

"A painter dreams of houses and beautiful architecture in which the human is free and this dreams becomes reality" - Hundertwasser, describing the building in his own words

There is an interesting quirk about the building that I learned just now as I'm searching for more facts about Hundertwasserhaus; the window right. It's a freedom/right that says "An apartment owner needs to have a right to lean out the window and remake the outside of their home as far as their arms reach. And he or she also needs the right to grab a long brush and as far as their arms reach, paint the walls pink so that one can see from the far, from the street: there lives a human...!
So far, no one has used their right.

Facing Hundertwasserhaus is Hundertwasser Village, a building built in the same, expressionism, style with souvenir shops and a bar in the centre.
